Hydrogen Production: Natural Gas Reforming » Natural gas reforming is an advanced and mature production process that builds upon the existing natural gas pipeline delivery infrastructure. Energy.gov
Chemistry of Nitrogen (Z=7) » Nitrogen is present in almost all proteins and plays important roles in both biochemical applications and industrial applications. Nitrogen forms strong bonds because of its ability to form a triple … Chem.libretexts.org
Hydrogen Cyanide » Hydrogen cyanide is a one-carbon compound consisting of a methine group triple bonded to a nitrogen atom It has a role as a human metabolite, an Escherichia … Pubchem.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov
The Haber Process » This page describes the Haber Process for the manufacture of ammonia from nitrogen and hydrogen, and then goes on to explain the reasons for the conditions used in the process. It looks at the effect … Chem.libretexts.org
Accurate and Compatible Force Fields for Molecular Oxygen, Nitrogen, and Hydrogen to Simulate Gases, Electrolytes, and Heterogeneous Interfaces » Gas molecules and interfaces with liquids and solids play a critical role in living organisms, sorption, catalysis, and the environment. Monitoring adsorption and heterogeneous interfaces remains difficult in experiments, and earlier models for molecular simulations lead to errors over 100% in fundamental molecular properties. We introduce conceptually new force field parameters for molecular oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen that reduce deviations to <5%. We employ a combination of a harmonic bond stretching potential and Lennard-Jones parameters with 12-6 and 9-6 options, leading to computed bond lengths, Raman peaks, liquid densities, vaporization enthalpies, and free energies of hydration in impressive agreement with experiments. Reliable free energies of hydration were obtained upon validation of density and vaporization energy without significant further parameter adjustments. We illustrate applications to O2 adsorption on Pt electrocatalysts and N2 adsorption in zeolites, showing <5% deviation in adsorpti Pubs.acs.org
The Reaction between Nitrite and Oxyhemoglobin: A MECHANISTIC STUDY* » The nitrite anion (NO[–] [2] ) has recently received much attention as an endogenous nitric oxide source that has the potential to be supplemented for therapeutic benefit. One major mechanism of nitrite reduction is the direct reaction between… Ncbi.nlm.nih.gov
Oxygen Transport » Some general comments about gas exchange and diffusion will be made, followed by a description of how oxygen is carried in the blood. The binding of oxygen to hemoglobin will be discussed, including the oxygen saturation (or dissociation) curve and factors (allosteric effectors) which cause it to shift. Next, a discussion of the effects of carbon monoxide on oxygen binding will be presented. Finally, a description of artificial oxygen carriers will be presented. Most of these topics are covered in standard textbooks [6,10,54,113] and monographs on oxygen transport [112]. Ncbi.nlm.nih.gov
